John Teel is a retired health department director who has lived in Rowlett for about 26 years. He has been married to Deborah for 45 wonderful years, and they have one child, Lindsey, age 33. Lindsey lives and works in Washington, D.C. and is a member of Advent Church there.
John and Deborah have been members of and attended Still Water since it opened in its current building, though from 2015 through 2018 they lived in Georgetown, Texas.
John has been so blessed to have been raised by two Christian parents. His mother was a strong believer, and his dad was a lifelong Church of Christ preacher. John and his two siblings grew up in the Church. When he was 13 years of age, living in Mesquite, Texas and part of the youth group at College and Locust Church of Christ, Pastor Corky Boyd gave a powerful message on the incredible sacrifice that Jesus Christ made when He shed His blood on the cross for each of us. John was moved by the Holy Spirit to answer the altar call, and he accepted Jesus that day as his personal Lord and Savior.
John has been unable to choose a single verse in God’s holy and inerrant Word as his favorite, but (in addition to John 3:16) here are some of his favorites:
1. Romans 8:28 “And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to His purpose.”
2. Ephesians 2:8-9 “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith- and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God- not by works, so that no one can boast.
3. Ecclesiastes 3:1-8 which begins “For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven….”
John thanks God for the blessing the Christ followers at Still Water and Pastor Kurt (and now Pastor Evan) have been in his family’s life. He (John) prays that God will continue to richly bless Still Water Community Church as it carries out its goal of “Reach, Teach, and Multiply”, to reach the unconvinced in Rowlett and beyond.
